Great cautionary tale about government and carrots from mars

really enjoyed. not quite as tight as its remake and suffers from a lot of the trappings of '50s horror (what was the vegetable-based alien obsession?) but fun nonetheless. got some laughs! really, really love the scene in the barracks; the quick turning out of the lamps, the geiger counter as this solitary, blinking light source, and then BOOM! in comes this big silhouette of the monster. lovely. first film in the iu cinema!

Okay wow this is really good and overshadowed by John Carpenter's The Thing. now even though this is the original it's a bit different and good for very different things I'd say the main highlights in this film has to be the Comedy and the Overlapping Dialogue, it all feels so natural cause this is how actual people speak and in movies that's such a hard thing to pull off they give no time to let the jokes land you just gotta pick up on it, from the multiple convos that can go on sometimes. Along with "The Thing" being way different this time it's an actual Alien that's invading and you barely see The Thing and at times you can feel uneasy feeling like it can pop at anytime or it's hiding anywhere, and I absolutely love the chemistry the characters have my favorite character has to be Scotty. he's so fucking hilarious and no one likes him he's basically dead weight and he's only there to a cover a story, and only care about taking a picture of the thing, and everyone gets annoyed by him and pokes fun at him. overall if you like something more fast paced and chemistry driven with an awesome cast of characters check this one out over the 1982 The Thing.
