I discovered by watching this that
Woman of Fire that it's essentially a remake of
The Housemaid, the last movie I watched.
It's really strange that despite the controversy surrounding
The Housemaid that they would remake it only ten years later. It's even stranger that after several wars and censorship implementations this would be one of the few surviving films left in Korean cinema.
It's about 85 percent the same but it starts and ends differently. Our two female leads have a different and darker beginning from their counterparts in
The Housemaid and there are a few different deaths along the way.
In general I didn't like
Woman of Fire as much. It feels cheap and, in some ways, lazily put together. The editing is all over the place, the version I watched had some bizarre subtitles, and I didn't feel that the performances were very strong.
It's not necessarily a bad movie and had I not watched
The Housemaid the day before this I probably would have appreciated it a bit more.
