I watched this on a whim never having heard of it before, but it was so much fun!
It’s cute, short, sweet and pretty creative — albeit sometimes a tad bit annoying and corny. It’s a fun heartfelt coming-of-age story filled with some crude humour and cool homages to classic action, martial arts and sci-fi films. there’s a lot of cool stylised elements, especially in the editing and art direction.
The plot is a little bit thin and overstretched, but I do like how it touches on the outdated notion that ‘action films create violent people’. It just needs a little more padding and ‘oomph’, but it’s a decent length.
The cast is pretty likeable overall, and their characters are charming! The performance is a pretty decent, but perhaps could be a bit more expressive, sometimes. There’s a lot of cool friendships and familial experiences.
Overall a joyful experience that perhaps just needs a bit more pizzazz!
