while i appreciate GM’s exceptional work and imagination and use of props for that time, i am so glad we evolved as filmmakers and in the art of cinema, because i am like 99.5% sure that Méliès was probably shooting on a theater stage and that also explains the props and just the look of his films altogether look like theater but as if someone filmed it. plus, he is constantly using the medium shot and the medium long shot and it’s always still shots, which kind of also checks out for maybe being shot on a theater stage cause if there were camera movements we could have seen like the outsides of the stage or something i don’t know it makes sense in my head. this review wasn’t supposed to be this long anyways
also i just found out that he was a racist?? what the fuck, why do talented visionary people always have some shady ass thing going on. and it’s always either racism or that they like touching kids. respect the art not the artist ig…
