so fucking heartbreaking that i might have cried a tad. the quiet suffering these girls had to endure for years because it’d have been better to stay quiet about their experiences with familial abuse instead of rock the boat. i liked the portrayal of the vast methods of coping with such an awful thing and we see it within the cousins. all three girls handled it differently and we see how the abuse affected them and fueled their differing personalities and actions.
the raw depiction of just how badly misogyny and patriarchal norms can really taint an entire generation of women and it affecting generation following is absolutely devastating; but unfortunately very applicable to and seen in a decently large portion of society. i wouldn’t say this was a comedic movie as it was listed though, i would have to rewatch in order to better understand the humor of it all; but perhaps it was better this way.
the ending was absolutely amazing. the girls ultimately wound up persevering and became guinea fowls, warning all of those around them about a predator. i loved this analogy. at first, i had no idea why in the world the title was what it was or why they were so significant but holy shit; it worked extremely well. this was really such a powerful film as a whole, i genuinely loved it and what it stood for.
