A lot of fun, but hampered by a rather clumsy script. The cast is stacked - both Gene Hackman and Ray Liotta are relishing every second of their scumbaggery, it’s delightful. Sigourney Weaver taking a comedic role as a femme fatale scammer? Inspired! Peak Jennifer Love Hewitt (though her role isn’t nearly as challenging). Jason Lee sticks out like a sore thumb here - he’s the worst-written character by far, his character is already so unbelievable, and Lee’s schtick as a blue-collar everyman further exposes the bad writing and disinterest in even an attempt at committing to it.
There’s some good little bits here and there - Hackman’s parrot, the Russian restaurant scene, and the little cons are pretty fun. Heckman’s character arc ends a bit too early and the story struggles to be coherent through the end. Silverman and Galifanakis are totally unused. Could have been made much tighter as a story, but still pretty fun.
