On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart, defying centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. conflicted on how to review this because the story is amazing, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and it’s a great movie but only because the original is a great movie. live action added nothing but anti-immersion (hiccup basically wearing an under armor hoodie). sobbed on the plane with @luke who watched over my shoulder and also sobbed

this movie has me so excited for the eventual live action shrek and kung fu panda 🤩🤩(half joking) ——— honestly, are we entering an era of actually decent live action remakes?? as much as i shouldn’t give my money to them, i very much enjoyed this one. dreamworks really nailed it on the head.
they were pretty true to the original, often copying shot for shot. which is great - the original was amazing. also the CGI in this is ridiculously good for a kids movie. toothless was cute as always and hiccup’s actor was really good.
it was a great love letter to the original animated version. it’s so funny how easy it is to make a good live action remake - just follow the original but make it IRL. glad someone is finally figuring that out… what im really waiting to see though is live action remakes that can figure out how to make changes that actually add in a positive way to the story… dreamworks, if you continue down this route, i believe in you (but i would still prefer brand new IP!!)

Phenomenal adaptation of the original!! Watched it with friends and it made the experience even better! Even if some thought it was too long cough Ana cough…the effects were amazing especially the aerial scenes and it was cool to see Gerard Butler playing the Viking dad again. Watched this at AMC Century City
