Modern day Romeo and Juliet set mostly in India, with some scenes from Canada sprinkled in. The first two acts were funny at times and energetic for the most part. The two leads does a decent enough job for non-professionals. Apart from the setting there’s nothing really here.
Then the gut punch of the third act rolls around and you could just touch the silence in the theatre. This is sadly a true story and one that is tough to sit through.
My screening was followed by a Q&A with the director and one of the lead actors, and to paraphrase the director “I don’t care if western audiences like it, I didn’t make it for them” ❤️
