this was my favourite movie as a child - maybe because aurora had a pink dress, or maybe because of how much magic is completely exuding out of this masterclass disney animation. the artstyle they use for this film is truly breathtaking, with beautiful medieval inspired backgrounds, angular like characters and maleficent’s wickedness being perfectly demonstrate with neon green beastly lights, it makes me so mad that somehow disney animation looked so much better like half a century ago?? like why are we devolving in artstyle..? i get were supposed to root against the villains - but maleficent makes it hard. she’s genuinely terrifying, and she’s probably my favourite disney villain, like ever. she’s easily the best part of this movie - to her powerful black magic, to her dramatic presence and grimy lair. the other characters are also fun - mainly the 3 fairies, which bring a nice comedic element to the movie and they have an excellent dynamic with eachother, another major highlight to me. aurora was less memorable, due to her basically sleeping for majority of the film but i still love her, she’s so elegant and while she doesn’t have much personality in comparison to other princesses, she still manages to be one of my favourites. the soundtrack is hypnotising, and one of the best for disney to date. i can’t believe i’m saying this - but i actually like this version of once upon a dream better than the lana version? like yes burn me at the stake but idk, this one felt so infatuating, and lanas cover of it is probably one of my least favourites by her (still an amazing song) this is also significant in disney, being the 3rd disney princess film and the best of the older disney films. the reason i didn’t give this any higher is it’s just really short, and straight forward, but this is one my favourite disney films ever.
