Before I start my review, I want to talk about Jed, the wolf dog actor who was in this film. When I watched this film when I was a kid, I watched it because of him. There were a few dog actors I was infatuated with and he was one of them. He was in this film, The Journey of Natty Gann and White Fang, and he was fantastic in them. He was one of the best dog actors of all time. Ok, I’ll stop autisming now. Just wanted to get that out there.
It’s been years since I last watched this. All I remembered from it were the graphic scenes, the scene with the dogs and how it ended. Now, I definitely can see why it has remained one of the best horror films of all time. I fell in love as soon as the opening credits started. The makeup and practical effects are incredible. This film was also perfectly cast. There’s so much tension that you feel like you’re right there with the characters, guessing who’s human and who’s alien. It’s such a well done film.
I hope The Thing will continue its legacy for many more years to come.
