“*my mom? she threw me away. She threw me away!”
*
movies like this is exactly why juliette lewis is the most underrated and talented actress. her breakdowns devastate me. she portrays young amanda sue bradley in this tv movie extremely well from what i have heard about the real person ‘attina marie cannaday’.
it makes me feel so violently sick how this film shows the extreme horrors of the life of minors who have no other choice but to get into prostitution. not to mention how her mother didn’t even try to believe her when she said that her stepfather had raped her, absolutely disgusting. that is no parent in my eyes, she had the courage to go and tell her mother this and all she received was “we’re moving away”.
brad pitt’s character makes my flesh crawl, it breaks my heart hearing about what mandy had to go through.
what disgusts me more than anything is the fact that the people working and going to the club were aware that she was FOURTEEN years old yet still watched her on stage. the only person who tried to help her then fell in love with her after saying he wouldn’t try to date her because she was a minor? disgusting.
still, getting the death sentence at fifteen years old is so extreme, she clearly suffered and was mistreated by the people around her: this is not to say she doesn’t deserve to be sentenced. i just believe it should have been a longer jail time.
