So basically, you know how everyone is so quick to judge movies these day...especially remakes? To the point where like they get disgusted at the very idea and start sayin that originality and creative storytelling is dead.
Well… sadly, this isn’t a new phenomenon at all.
Studios have been recycling stories for decades.
Just about every ten years, a remake shows up because it reduces financial risk while letting studios leverage existing intellectual property or (I.P.)capitalizing on viewers’ nostalgia and sense of comfort....I know right... shocking....
Take this 1946 film, for example.
Its plot and characters are pretty much exactly the same as those in the 1936 Harold Lloyd comedy The Milky Way, released just ten years earlier.
Feel dumb yet? …I do!... This isn't a new concept it's been replicated over and over for years ..so shut it!
Anyway, I haven’t seen The Milky Way yet, so stay tuned for that.....
But for now... I really enjoyed this film, and I really enjoy the comedic choices of Danny Kaye.
There’s something kind of poetic...or maybe just stupid?...about the fact that I actually only discovered the work of Danny Kaye through a god awful 2013 remake of a film of his by the same name (The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty)and only discovered his talent as I went searching for the original source material.
Anyway....I laughed and giggled like a little kid at the sight of his absurd, amazing physicality. It was even better getting to watch it with my wife and introduce her to the madman himself.
Much more to come!
