It's been a few years since I last watched the '97 film, and I'm sure a lot of what came to my mind while watching this also applies to that film, but inevitably those realizations are a lot more starker watching A Night to Remember now. The denial of reality until it's too late, the arrogance, the callousness towards the lower class, the commitment to segregation even when the world around you is sinking into oblivion because those are the rules. I was angry watching this. Watching this post-COVID and even just in some way shape or form the last decade or so, among the denialists, the optimists, the pessimists, the selfish, the selfless, and the doomers... Watching stories of survival just feels different. Oh, the humanity...
