Curiosity killed the cat.
Starts out as a quirky family comedy-drama that quietly morphs into something morbid and off-kilter as we learn more about this family and their dynamic. You can tell the film is subtly playing into your “comical but tragically dysfunctional family” trope before it goes full force, with each character engaging in morally questionable actions before you’re left to question whether you’re loosing your own mind or everyone in the film is. The film builds off of characters quietly watching and listening as their family talks shit about them behind their back which gets old pretty fast, though something about the portrayal of surrealist techniques and dreamlike sequences does work rather well. As someone who’s extended family is German I can tell you firsthand that this is not what it’s like. 😀👍
