This movie was such a strange and mesmerizing experience. The performances are incredible, especially Anne Hathaway. She brings so much presence to Mother Mary and really sells both the larger-than-life pop star image and the messiness underneath it. Michaela Coel is also amazing, and the tension between them carries so much of the movie.
I also loved how dreamlike and almost haunting everything felt. The visuals, the music, the fashion, all of it comes together to create something that feels really unique and a little unsettling.
It’s definitely more focused on mood and symbolism than straightforward storytelling, which I know won’t work for everyone, but I love that type of thing. Even when it got a little abstract, I was still completely into it.
