I could watch Keanu and David Lynch talk for hours…
A great documentary about the transition from film to digital and put into perspective for me (who grew up mainly with digital stuff) how recently all this was. Really cool to hear these legends opposing opinions on digital vs film, and my main take away from it is kinda to do whatever you want because there are pros and cons to both, and like David Lynch and some others say at the end, the human storytelling is the important part and it doesn’t really matter how you get there. It’s cool to see what predictions they made have come true or been proven wrong even in the last 14 years since its release.
Probably time for a Side by Side 2 about the use of AI in filmmaking

Lovely to see different directors varying yet equally passionate views on this subject, there's so much that could be said on either side of this debate to the point where it's nearly impossible to see a clear answer. Interesting to watch this 14 years after its making since there's been so much more progression in the way of digital filmmaking to the point where films shot on film are a rarity. In my personal opinion I don't really view digital as impeding on the value of film, and as long as filmmaking is more available to more people then that's good by me. A really compelling and fascinating look at a very underexplored and niche yet stormy debate. Recommended.
