As far as the actual production design and effects are concerned, this is a pretty impressive movie. The costuming and VFX, where applied, are pretty well integrated and they look good.
I think my primary qualms come from the fact that I don't really know why anything in the story has to happen the way it does. The fact that the crew of criminals is brought in as part of the lizard people breeding harem is pretty nonsensical. What would be the point of the woman bringing them in to bring them to a separate location where a bunch of them could get killed by plant creatures? Why do the plant creatures even exist? Why is one of them a wizard? Why do the lizard people have beef with them? Why was this shot in the wintertime when logically it doesn't track that plants would even be this active in the wintertime? If they're this active in the winter how have the lizard people not been instakilled in the summer when the plants would be stronger, more numerous, and the nighttime is shorter so there's less time for the lizard people to be stronger? Where does this crew of familiars come from? Why are there so many familiars? Why does the murderous blonde not like to cuss? Why is the main handsome guy so relaxed about everything? Why do he and the blonde have sex in someone's house that they don't know in the bed of someone they don't know? How is it that the lesbian couple that get separated in the early part of the movie even get separated? Shouldn't the one lizard girl know how to get to her own house? I know the lizard people set up their whole attack in the third act up so it coincides with the total solar eclipse, but if they were getting their asses kicked even when they were daywalking lizards how have they not gotten completely steamrolled a hundred times over by these fucking things? Why in the world would the TV in the harem dungeon be playing the same zombie movie that was playing at the drive in theater earlier in the movie? That TV was just literally moments ago playing sex ed videos. Also STD prevention is objectively something that's very funny for these lizards to care about considering these people are CAPTIVES in their HAREM. What, are they going to go to a hospital if one of them develops syphillis?
I get it, it's a low budget production. But idk, movies tend to work better when all the pieces make sense even if you don't spell them out in the movie. Lore matters, especially in a movie where the main rival gangs (plants vs lizard zombies) have apparently been beefing forever. For some reason.
