drawcinema summary:
In order for you to truly understand the film, you havee to be an Yu-Gi-Oh fan. This film takes place between Season 3 and Season 4 of the original anime. So fi you didn't see up to Season 3, you will have no idea what is going on.
As a Yu-Gi-Oh fan of the original series, this film is a good add on into the world of Duel Monsters. I like the clearer, well-shaded animation, and the new monsters that both Yugi and Kabia used while dueling. Although, it runs it's story trope of "an ancient dark evil" again while it the film, which does it boring after awhile.
To make a long story short, the film is entertaining and faithful to the series, but requires knowledge of the series in order to understand and be entertained by it. It's not liek the non-canon DBZ films where you can pick one movie and just watch without worry of understanding the series. Nope. These films are canon.
