Compulsion is a modern gaillo/erotic thriller directed by Neil Marshall. I like Neil Marshall from the decent, dog soldiers, doomsday and centurion I like alot. With Compulsion he does a pretty decent job bringing back the gaillo genre.
Following 2 stories a detective investigating brutal murders on the island and a mysterious innocent or seems to be girl (evie) as she gets involved with her neighbors who have nefarious intentions ( diana).
The story is serviceable. It goes through all the general beats you expect in this genre but does it well enough. The twists although you can see them coming are decent and executed well.
The characters are mostly interesting while others are a little boring. Evie and Diana are best part of the movie. Their story is the most engaging and interesting to follow. The detective story is fine but nothing to write home about.
The preformances are all decent. Not great but not terrible. As for how it is as a Gaillo movie. I like it and the erotic thriller part is done well too. Don't quote me though I'm not an expert on Gailo yet.
In the end compulsion is enjoyable and I had a good time with it. That being said it won't surprise anyone and doesn't break any mold.
