Head Above Water

Minimalist one-location thriller rife with bursts of black comedy about a death on a remote island and the ensuing spiralling of the main trio as the truth rises to the surface and real world logic gets subbed out for Looney Tunes absurdism in the final act. That description makes the film sound interesting and maybe even watchable but I can assure you it's most certainly not. Bland, uninspired, unfunny, unengaging, lame, trite, buzzword, buzzword, buzzword — Head Above Water is one of the most boring films I've ever seen. I haven't had much luck with '90s black comedies starring Cameron Diaz — see The Last Supper and Very Bad Things — and this might be the worst one yet. You can kinda tell no one working on this film wanted to actually make this. Complete soul death. :3
