This is kind of like squid game but if the goal was to make the contestants pretty, and if the contestants then fell in love with their captors.
Rex Harrison was much more charming the first time I watched this. This time, I just found him to be a total asshole. Not only does he not realize he's gay ("why can't a woman be like a man?") but his charm also doesn't make up for his blatant sexism and classism the way it was intended to.
Julie Andrews would have been better for this part, no question, but Hepburn carries it really well. She handles the accent changes pretty well and makes you care about Eliza.
Stanley Holloway was no question the best performance in the film.
It was certainly flawed but despite it's run time, it is a fun movie-watching experience.
