The two actresses do a phenomenal job making their characters feel like real people. While I was enjoying it as a family drama about a mother and a daughter navigating a tough patriarchal world, the ghost stuff just felt tacked on and underbaked. It’s the real world stuff that is much scarier and much more effective.

A slow, broody, avant-garde horror, personifying systemic patriarchal oppression passed down from generation after generation of toxic masculinity in an environment not made to protect the matriarchs when that curse has been lifted.

Whilst it did lose me in some places and I feel like it was a little too subtle, brave and important filmmaking, with an important voice nevertheless. 

Absolute adore that I have access to the kind of stuff I wouldn’t even dream of watching thanks to The Showroom. Need to remember to be grateful sometimes x
