Nothing scratches the itch in my brain as much as a beautifully intimate coming-of-age story like this one. The cinematography and composition really stood out to me, especially the scene where the pool reflects Ara dancing. I also loved the recurring use of mirrors and reflections throughout the film to deepen emotional conversations. The narrative itself felt really special. It captures the pursuit of the American dream through the perspective of a struggling low-income Asian family, while also showing the quiet shame and identity crisis that can come with trying to fit in. Watching Hayoung hide parts of her upbringing from her wealthy friends was heartbreaking and painfully honest at times.
