asclytus's bitchass had to go.
review:
federico fellini's satyricon is a film that suggests the past is fundamentally a stranger to us, so much so that if we were to go back in time, it would appear as a dream. and a fucking WILD RIDE it is.
an excellent portrayal of hedonism, BEAUTIFUL MOVIE, production design is amazing, costuming is amazing, makeup is amazing, so attentive to detail. this looks like film from rome. (before christ, after fellini, duh)
the philosophy works gorgeously with the visuals (which are gorgeous themselves). roman hedonism in the time of nero includes sexual debauchery and pleasure seeking, satyricon lives every moment like the last. maximizing the 2hr runtime, it's almost episodic in its pacing.
the main point is that with everyone dying under the rule of the 'new caesar', you must live for your own pleasure and nothing else! a cautionary tale in some aspects but also clearly self indulgent for fellini.
personal note- i massively enjoy the first hour and 15 minutes of this, after that is rocky.
