What is this guy and these near-cliche “celebrity falls in love with peasant” scenarios. First Notting Hill, now this. At least Notting Hill had Spike and a blue door. Music and Lyrics: no Spike and no blue door. Though there is a strangely sexual representation of an American teen pop star, like I’m not sure why they chose this schtick for her. Those are my negatives. It is, however, easy to convey what the director is trying to say about the entertainment industry. Art and business are so intertwined nowadays that money can easily snatch the soul of art, turning art into something of a metaphorical oxymoron. Instead of flourishing with an abundant show of creativity and the beauty of the human mind, art made with this flawed motive, fully displays a self-centered human desire fueled by greed. It is human nature to create, therefore to be creative and that results in art. This film asks the question: is the solution to the industry’s glaring issue a reignited flame of passion for the arts? Using these business partners’ lover’s quarrel to see if love triumphs over greed is an interesting angle. Overall, I guess bro.
