The Mission

It’s so painfully evident that some of the people here failed this young man and allowed him to die. What do you mean you guys held re-enactments for the sake of practicing an encounter - an illegal encounter with a people who are not accustomed to a world we’re all otherwise used to. And for what? For the idea that we can bring them to a religion they dom’t even know? Yeah it’s easy to point at John Chau and call him an idiot and award him the Darwin Award, but no one saw consequences for enabling his actions. A parent lost a child. People lost a friend who wanted adventure. The enablers got away. What an interesting and yet frustrating documentary.

this is an impossible mission, ure trying to convert the sentinelese to christianity. they are human beings too, n all they want is to protect their home and defend themselves. so if spreading the word of God means embarking on a suicidal mission, then perhaps that’s not your true calling. many have warned that the island is extremely dangerous and that the sentinelese are not harmless. by attempting to contact them, u js made others believe they are somehow evil or even "satan’s children," which is so unfair. kaya as a christian, i believe u don’t need to prove your faith to God by attempting the impossible. u can js spread His word w the people around you or evangelize, n help others in countless meaningful ways without putting yourself in dat situation or violating the boundaries of an uncontacted tribe (love the animation btw)

A rather interesting documentary. Learned about this guy in my Anthropology class, did a lil more research and got recommended this documentary. I think any opinion on this is subjective and there is a million ways to look at Chau’s death.
