Nominated at multiple film festivals, Curry Barker’s The Chair is fairly impressive, and has a lot to compare with Obsession. For starters, there’s a moment in here where quick facial expressions play a role in a scare, reminiscent of Inde Navarrette’s performance as Nikki. Another is the mix of bizarre comedy, mixed with a seriously creepy tone. Barker leaned heavy on the vibe he captured in this short film when creating Obsession. So does it make this short film solid? I’m not really sure. The horror is effective, but this isn’t a short film where its story resonates with you. I could barely even grasp it.
