this movie is called ‘cinderella’, but the mice are the true main characters
i’d be lying if i said this movie wasn’t disappointing on a rewatch. it’s not like it was one of my favourite disney movies or anything, but it was just a lot better in my head. i still think the story book, hand drawn animation is gorgeous - and a lot better than modern day disney. while the songs don’t hold much to mulan or the little mermaid, there’s still some really fun songs that are relatively memorable. besides that, this movies biggest advantage is it’s villain: lady tremaine, which is honestly my second favourite disney antagonist, behind maleficent. i honestly just wanted more scenes with her, just because of how realistic her character is in comparison to others - her psychological cruelty is the thing that makes her so powerful, plus she’s just a really over-the-top character that scared me a lot as a child. my main problems consist of the annoying subplots, lille the cat and mice dynamic, which takes screen time from cinderella (the protagonist, who were supposed to care about) i thought the first 40 minutes were bleak, mainly because of this. cinderella is also probably one of the worst princesses, she’s just so passive and lets everyone around her do things for her, while i do feel bad for her to an extent - she just lacks a personality. the prince was even worse, he has no dialogue and one of the most boring characters ever. by the end, the only thing i actually cared about was the visual talent, rather than the undeveloped romantic ‘love at first sight’ story (also, the ugly stepsister is way better but i guess that just goes without saying)
