“Well then I just don’t get it”
“I didn’t think you would”
Yea this hit too close to home, as I figured it would.
Why do dads performatively protect their daughters but don’t actually do so?
When Matt ate food in his tent overnight, Sam’s dad went off on him about bears and wildlife and how his daughter is here and he doesn’t want to put her in danger. But when Sam comes to her father with a serious concern about Matt, he scoffs and responds with “Can we just have a good day?” Literally nothing could be more accurate. Some Dads like to pretend they’d do anything for their daughters, but when it comes down to it, they probably won’t. Because if they don’t understand the concern, they have a hard time empathizing with it, and won’t do anything about it.
Other than the plot the film was shot well and had a nice score. Very solid. And now I’m sad
