“holy shit! look who got beaten with the ugly stick! is that you, bob? i can’t believe such a teeny weeny little gun made such a mess out of someone! u
you are so ugly, bob! and, hey, i heard you have one of those big poop bags that’s like attached to where the shit comes out of the side, you’re such a big ole shitbag ain’t you, bob! you just think of me everytime you empty that thing, motherfucker!”
i added this on my watchlist quite recently, but it has reese witherspoon so it kinda just went on the top of my list, and it’s definitely something i’m glad i watched and honestly loved it so much, to the point i watched the sequel with natasha lyonne, and i loved that one also. they’re both not really conventionally ‘good’ movies (especially not the dtv sequel) but they both tick boxes on what i would enjoy. surrealist narrative, exploitation, campiness, lack of taste. both also adapting a grimms fairytale (little red riding hood in this case) and i’ve got to say, this is the best little red riding hood film i’ve seen (it’s the only one i’ve seen, but id just assume it’s the best one). it is basically the white trash version of the fairytale. the girls mother is a prostitute, and her father is a pervert. she escapes to the california freeway, where she meets a psychotic man (the wolf), which allows it to be a more realistic adaptation than its source material. reese witherspoon is such a massive highlight, as her breakout performance, and probably one of the best i’ve seen from her. she portrays vanessa as a completely over-the-top, an illiterate, foul mouthed girl who is a product of her environment, and refuses to be a victim of the antics of the serial killer. the villain is also great, being highly psychotic and then transforms into a disfigured figure, who brings an unhinged energy to the second half. besides it’s amazing cast consisting of brooke shields and brittany murphy, it’s got a really fun, sleazy, B-movie aesthetic that makes it a tad more edgier, plus funner for me to watch. it’s a sharp satire on the american legal system, and blends intense violence with an absurd script, resulting in a comedically excellent and campy thriller that is some must watch stuff.
