Two Tons Of Turquoise To Taos Tonight is absurd, surrealist, and hilarious. There’s a rhythm to the disparaging lack of any narrative cohesion. The contrast of scenes never distracts and if it does, it’s an intentional one. This film is the perfect example how, as one of the characters states, we live life moment to moment. And how nothing is ever truly constant. There’s no long period of sadness, nor, long period of happiness. Sometimes a happy moment is the saddest moment. A sad moment, the happiest. It’s all nonsensical.
And Eloise Downey is literally the star of this film, she has the perfect comedic energy in delivery, action, timing, and expressions. Also the dialogue, although distractingly off the wall, is one of my most enjoyed parts of this.
I couldn’t help but crack up at “Don’t forget I’m screwing your sister. Just call me hump in law.” And shortly contemplated on “At 11, I was ashamed of being half-Jewish. At 19, I was ashamed of being half-Irish. Now, I’m just ashamed.”
Also the editing is amazing, it really emphasizes this speed of life that Downey I think was trying to portray.
Great and funny watch! Hope to watch more from Mr. Downey Sr.
