This was too contrived.
Everything came off calculated and was a bit too perfect for something meant to highlight simplicity. I also just didn't like the guy, felt his 'awkwardness' and muttering lines under his breath unconvincing, it was so obvious he WAS acting. Same goes for the supporting cast. This entire thing felt so devoid of connection and emotion, done overtly in earnest.
