Less a parody of Gremlins, more inspired by the numerous Gremlins knock-off's that hit our shelves in the 80s and 90s, where little creatures run amuck and create havoc for our hapless lead.
Here the lead is Conor (Conor Sweeney), a total square, who while looking to spice up both his career and bedroom performance, calls a 1-900 party line (with a note perfect recreated advert) hosted by a Frankie Freako, a weird goblin who loooooves to party as a way of escaping the oppression of his home planet.
This captures the vibe of a straight-to-video knock off so well, even down to the pacing and score. Frankie is a weird-ass hybrid of My Pet Monster and something put of Puppet Master. Sweeney is a little uneven, but verrrry funny when nailing square dialogue like 'what the H?'. Aussie Kirsty Wordsworth plays his wife Kristina (you can so hear the accent).
It's Friday night, school is done, you've got pizza and and a 1.25 litre Pepsi, this is the movie you are taking home.
