Slowly working my way through the Halloween franchise, and I gotta say Halloween II (1981) might be one of my favorites so far. Between this and Season of the Witch, these are hands down the best-looking Halloween films. The hospital setting in this one is just chef’s kiss—the lighting, the set pieces, and that eerie atmosphere all come together perfectly. It honestly feels like horror perfection to me.
What really surprised me though is how amazing the camera work is in this movie. I don’t think it gets enough love. My two favorite shots: when the nurse finds Dr. Mixter with the needle in his eye and Michael just slowly emerges from the shadows—it’s so simple, but so effective. And then the scene where Jimmy and the nurse are talking outside the room and you can see Michael’s shadow behind the curtain? That’s pure nightmare fuel and one of the coolest shots I’ve ever seen.
And yeah, I know the whole Laurie and Michael are siblings thing is controversial, but I actually love it. It makes their rivalry way more interesting and personal, and it gives Michael’s obsession with her a stronger reason. I think it adds more weight to the story instead of taking away from it.
