Vada Sultenfuss has a holiday coming up, and an assignment: to do an essay on someone she admires and has never met. She decides she wants to do an assignment on her mother, but quickly realises she knows very little about her. She manages to get her father to agree to let her go to LA to stay with her Uncle Phil and do some research on her mother.

I'm glad they adopted the cousin incest plotline from The Godfather Part III for this movie about finding your family roots.This is better than I thought it would be, but ultimately it's a movie that wasn't completely necessary. I did laugh out loud at parts, mainly because Vada is a fun character to watch. Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis are good for their cut-down parts, and I'm glad we got to see more of Uncle Phil. Overall, there are good concepts, but most of them felt played out, and the emotional moments weren't nearly as strong. I genuinely hate Nick and dread every frame he is on screen. The first film is much stronger, with the direction not being as resistant, and while this movie isn't wholly satisfying, it could have been worse.

Overhated I can't begin to understand the average rating on this. I understand the importance of the first film to many but this wasn't a bad sequel and certainly wasn't unnecessary given the lack of exploration surrounding Vada's mothers background in the first. The romance sub plot with nick was unnecessary and it would've been better left as a friendship but I did enjoy this.
