I find it really motivating that even though he was treated so badly and spent five years there, he never lost hope and managed to escape after several failed attempts. It also shows how prison and isolation from reality affect a person, and I feel like if his girlfriend hadn’t visited him, the ending wouldn’t have been as happy.
