Sorry Pete but you lost me on this one. I knew going in that this wasn't his best received movie, so I had set my expectations relatively low, but seeing how I've loved so much he's made wo far, I was still hoping to like this more than I did.
Following the pillow book he keeps the more contemporary style which is fine, but I was hoping he'd still kinda play with the artform in some way as he did in the pillow book, however this movie feels incredibly ordinary in its approach to presenting itself. And its honestly quite a shame cause Greenaways unique style is a big part of what I like, but this movie dosent have alot going for it in that department.
The most Greenaway thing about the movie is the amount of penis but still wasn't as good as in the pillow book and here the topic of sex just took overhand and wasn't enough of anything else going on so it got kinda stale. The characters too were uninteresting and overall I didn't really care for all that much in this movie. It's a shame and I hope that I'll like his newer works a bit more than this
