Always feels like a Fever Dream, but more so a weirdly beautiful one. And I think that’s what I appreciate about Always. However, I would confidently call this Spielbergs weirdest movie to date.
I say that Always feels like a Fever Dream, not only because of the Plot, but rather how cool it is that everyone’s acting like Richard Dreyfuss isn’t around in a visible way.
The acting is mediocre at best. Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, and Brad Johnson were the three leads that felt the most compelling.
The cinematography is still Spielberg, which is a huge reason Always still works well enough. Theirs some truly beautiful shots riddled throughout the project, and to me, the direction and cinematography seem to fit well with the outrageous costume and prop design.
It feels like a fever dream comedy, I don’t even know how to explain it.
Always isn’t anything special yet there’s something magical about it, and without a doubt will always be one of Spielbergs weirdest projects. However, most call this one of his projects to skip; I think that’s far from the truth, as there’s more to gain than there is to throw away.
