Halloween 5 honestly feels like a step down from the last entry. I’ll give it credit where it’s due—the atmosphere is still spooky in parts, the mask looks a little better this time around, and Danielle Harris once again does a solid job as Jamie. There are glimpses of tension and creepy imagery that remind you why this franchise works when it’s firing on all cylinders.
But the bad far outweighs the good here. The pacing is messy, the story feels all over the place, and the tone is weirdly uneven with unnecessary comedy. The biggest disappointment though is how they handled Rachel. After being such a strong, likable character in Halloween 4, she gets written off so quickly and in such a frustrating way. It completely wastes the potential she had to continue as one of the franchise’s best final girl. By the end, I was left feeling more annoyed than scared, and that’s never what you want out of a Halloween movie.
Overall, it’s not unwatchable, but it’s easily one of the weakest sequels so far. There are bits of promise here, but it’s buried under poor choices and wasted opportunities.

Was lost for about half the movie and kept checking how much longer I had to watch it. Horrible acting and horrible use of a great score.
