Brian is a private school student who routinely lends his van out so fellow students can have sex in it. When he is invited to become friends with Tony, the school's big man on campus, he hopes to get some romantic pointers so that he might use his van himself with dream girl Suzie. Things become more complicated, however, when he discovers Tony is sleeping with Suzie himself.

“are you playing an instrument?”
“brian how would i be playing a woodwind and talking at the same time?”
awkwardly funny and cute. actually a lot better than i expected this movie to be. definitely cringed at some of the dialogue and acting but that adds to the comedy i guess 💀
my notes:
- benny lowkey looks like tobey maguire ngl but i dont get what his deal is. i want to know all their family lore.
- i love bo burnham so much but bro does NOT look like a tony. pick a different name for him i beg.

this movie frustrates me so much because it has plenty of potential. for example, the main character is cute & his relationship with his brother is very endearing. also, the high school setting and the "sin bin" concept could make for a very funny coming-of-age story. does the movie do something watchable with all that, though? no, not at all. it sort of acts as if it did by the end, but nothing worthwhile or emotionally consequential ever happens in this film. and what DOES happen feels unnatural, as if there's something off about it all. even the characters don't act like real human beings (tony being the prime example! why is he like that???). it's just a completely odd, terrible movie, and i'm glad i never have to watch it again.
(also! i know most people on this app watched the film for bo burnham. i watched it for gillian jacobs, so i feel their pain. at least they got more than one scene out of it, though)
