Short films like this are the reason why it’s so rewarding to watch the Oscar nominated short films. The Girl Who Cried Peals was a beautifully crafted stop motion animated short about the importance of emotions and storytelling. Every frame felt like a painting, and its story is lovely. This might’ve surpassed Retirement Plan as my favorite Oscar nominated animated short film of the year.

I've said it many times before, and I'll say it again: stop-motion is animation is pure magic; it fills a part of my soul that begs for beautiful art. The Girl Who Cried Pearls is no exception to this, and features an evocative story and melancholy score to accompany its hauntingly beguiling animation. While I do think the story's ending was a bit anticlimactic, I loved almost everything else about the short film, and I wish there was a full-length feature film with this style of puppets. A fantastically done piece of work, overall, and I'm excited to see how it does at the Oscars.
