My name is Andy Korn.
Shelves of criterions, box sets, the home stretch of Cronenberg’s oeuvre, a few contenders for my best of 2025 list, going to bed early… no, the siren call of a potentially nasty and/or stupid movie.
This is all over the place. Attractive leads meet a weird grindhouse movie wrestling with attempts at style and a story that is just… yeah, I won’t spoil it but this simultaneously wallows in pig shit and tries to be something more. As is becoming the case more often, this crosses a poor taste threshold without going far enough to be remarkable. It’s definitely not notable as a good movie. I was almost fine with this being shitty, stupid fun but it pulls a cardinal sin that results in some interminable, gear grinding tedium. You had human piglets and still lost me.
I’ve been camera shopping and this was a really great thing to watch since it really highlights how a decent camera and some good lenses can get you pretty far but there’s a limit. I’ve got complaints about the lighting but it’s really funny that something like this has contrast - real highlights and shadows in the same shot! - when so much stuff now doesn’t. No more gels or colored LEDs or whatever! Stop it!
