i was forced to watch this, the 2 hour 25 minute runtime and the genres really didn’t interest me.. and it’s a netflix film so that just adds fuel to the fire!! but i’m so glad to say this may be one of the contenders for my favourite action film :)
i think the main reason i hate action so much is pretty much all them follow the same story, there’s heroes vs villains, there’s a bunch of cheap gun violence with zero gore to get a lower rating and a really predictable and (the hero always wins) and while this film definitely has a couple traits of q generic action film, it really had so many traits which i just straight up adore. i think general asian film is so much better than the american garbage, and this is just proof. one thing i absolutely loved was the gore!!! yes! this is what every action film is missing!! balls split open, eyes gauged out, faces completely destroyed, with blood just completely spraying out of everyone. it also has some really cool action sequences, unlike a lot of other films like this there’s clear suspense and really intrigues you with its battle scenes.
the plot of this film is very simplistic, i won’t lie, but it’s just so effective to the point where i can’t fault it, and it’s relatively unique for the genre as a whole, a group of superhuman esque individuals who work as assassins kill whoever they are asked to, without fail. the plot seems quite soulless on first glance, but this film has a really likeable and strong protagonist, who builds relationships with multiple other characters and the villains all have that ‘love to hate’ quality that just makes everything so enjoyable. netflix really surprised me with this one, and if all action films even came close to it maybe it would be in my top 5.
