My wife cries is a very interesting film about physicality, the interest we perceive in other people and all that which we like but don't end up realizing because of how used we are to it.
The biggest problem of this film is the performances being so flat but so naturalistic. I think it's the tone of the movie itself and it being German what strikes to me perhaps. But I love the imagery, the amount of inner objects that these monologues have and include is mesmerizing. Just the whole anecdote about never truly feeling intimate with someone just because you don't click with them physically was fantastic.
All the monologues are told in such a way that it shocks you the amount of images you make in your head, they convey stories of the past which express in some way what the character feels about themselves. Sex being seein as the only sport she liked instead of biking is astonishing. How the physical intimacy we seek and envy of others is in reality something that other person doesn't see for themselves.
The fact that Valentin was seen as this person who was good at what they did, a digger, by Thomas is so interesting cause it shows how much one can see things in others that you are not able to tell on your own.
It's a very daring movie with all the long shots and the non sequential order of the events. At the beginning I was puzzled and I wasnt liking it much but then I was hooked.
I thought it suffered in a way of no emotion being seeked but that's just how the director wanted the film to be, a space of thought and reflection.
Good film
