"Jack in, jack off, what's the difference?"
This is an uninspired vague mashup of 20 different films. The real surprise is that The Lawnmower Man is not within those 20. This compared to the first film is like Dragonball Evolution to Dragon Ball. I don't even think the first one is a very good film but it is super memorable and stylish and entertaining, so it disappoints me that the sequel doesn't even try to emulate it in any way.

a surprising lack of lawnmowers in this one, not counting the little fan service tease at the start. literally just a completely different movie with the same name.

didn’t watch with the sound on but don’t think i even needed to. Jobe is human again? he’s fighting hacker kids? where is hunky scientist Pierce Brosnan? i doubt this movie gave any actual answers to my questions

Takes all the good natured early 90s technobabble from the first one & dials it to 100.
Takes place 6 years after the first where it opens in a cyberpunk city with fucking hover cars trying to look like Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner before completely forgetting about that.
It’s at once The Goonies, Waterworld (what the fuck is that Trace guy actually wearing?!), Ready Player One &…I dunno? Highlander? There’s lightning swords & there’s flying through the sky like Peter Pan?
Someone here clearly did not watch the first movie but instead saw Hackers the year before & said “let’s do this, but for kids, but we won’t consult any sort of tech people at all.” Why is the chip a diamond?
There is a scene at 1 hour 18 minute mark where a group or 4 characters use the phrase “jack in” 87 times in the space of 2 minutes. Ooof.
