maybe i enjoy gothic themes and elements more than i admit, because i don't understand how i stomached some scenes with how disturbing they were.

many complicated thoughts about the triggering nature of this film and whether it offers up anything new or HAS to, but i like when i'm forced to question my tastes and the purpose of film.

on a lighter note, i could not stop thinking of jane eyre throughout this and now i really want to go back to the book.
