Normally when I log I use letterboxd for movies and serializd for tv shows but today I got to know banger of an app called Flick. Honestly speaking it is better than letterboxd. This has been in my watchlist for a long time but flick recommended this film to me today. Despite logging 1540 here, this is apparently the 1500th film I am logging (excluding some tv shows and specials).
Coming to the film...
An enchanting experience from the very beginning. You are sucked into a world of neon-lit places with people who are stuck in a loop of living life with no purpose. Usage of music is very important in films as it can improve the quality of scenes but here it does something much more greater than that. It gives you an experience which feels like you have been transcended to another realm. That soothing electronic music with hazy imagery is the level of aesthetics very few films can attain. I can watch the film a 100 times only for its opening scene.
Vicky is a girl with no job, no purpose. She is surrounded with people like that and she grows closer to hao hao. She tries to break free from all the cycles which are holding her back but somehow she can't. She knows hao hao is not right for her and leaves him but still she goes back to him as if she was hypnotised. Seen from a lens of vicky after ten years. The themes of memory and nostalgia are handled very well. After all what are we without our memories. Another interesting thing in this film is the personalities of hao hao and Jack. Hao hao is a shy guy with no job and no desire to work, he is possessive and often times very controlling. He is like a parasite feeding over vicky. On the other hand jack is a gangster but calm, sensible, caring and kind. Liked how different they both were and how a gangster has better values.
