I got to see this in a theater with a live organ accompaniment as a little pre-show to Sunset Boulevard.

I really enjoyed the shadow puppetry establishing shots, lots of German expressionism influence. Clearly everyone involved with this had a score to settle with Hollywood and they pulled exactly zero punches.

I can recognize the importance but I did not enjoy it

I can recognize the importance but I did not enjoy it

these silent films from back then are always gonna be ones that i really enjoy sitting down and watching because even though there isn’t any dialogue in them and you don’t know what exactly the people in them are saying unless you’re so expert on reading lips you can still get the story across with just the way the actors & actresses express their feelings and also just the mannerisms that are displayed on screen like what i myself got out of this film was that just the main guy of the film so many others just like him want this ‘perfect’ hollywood luxurious lifestyle that they see on the television or hear about but that lifestyle that they desire is not all what it seems to be because we have seen and heard so many horrible stories that have came out of hollywoods and what some of these actors & actresses had to be put through just so they could achieve their dreams of being the star they’ve wanted also the many drug addictions and alcohol problems that so many of these stars had developed with their mental health being the worse and how much this dream ends up taking over them and some being so unhappy when they have finally gotten what they had always hoped for not to also mention how much the media also plays a role in the lives of these people and how it tends to always ruin some of these stars lives and destroy them which ends up in some of the stars resulting in taking their own lives from them not being able to go on with how severely damaged that have been from the said media dehumanizing them as if these people aren’t just like everyone else with thoughts and feelings which so extremely saddening to me but this was still such a great short little film loved the camera work and all the many different imagery going on in the film like it’s a dark and deep on but it does one hell of a job getting its point across to the audience.
