I’d heard that this was like… TERRIBLE, but it’s really just a case of diminishing returns. Yes it mostly follows the beats of the first movie and yes all of those beats are worse this time around, but not by that much! It’s honestly a pretty solid buddy cop flick that’s really only dragged down by the first movie existing.

While the first one had a simplistic story this one dials it up so there’s a conspiracy with crooked cops, a major crime boss that creates a sort of contradictory through-line from the first movie, & a higher body count.
This got butchered in the edit. We lose all of the mystery around Kehoe making his sudden reveal jarring. We also lose the whole bloody reference to 48 hours. Jack was supposed to have 48 hours to track down the Iceman but because this explanation was cut there’s literally nothing to go in the 48 hours gimmick.
