I like films that take a Frankenstein-type horror character and make them feminist. It's no coincidence that Lanthimos' "Poor Things" is in my top four, so of course I enjoyed this movie. For practically Maggie Gyllenhaal's first film, I think it's truly remarkable. I'm sure she'll go a long way as a director. Jesse Buckley is also truly excellent, and this film is further confirmation that she's an Oscar-worthy actress, as are the rest of the cast. I think it's underrated, but at the same time, I can understand why it might not be liked: the idea itself was very interesting and original, but in the end, we found ourselves with a film we've already seen over and over again. That said, I liked the dialogue and the director's choices, making it a film that deals with complex themes while making the storyline easy enough to follow.
